Project Overview
This book trailer is a project from my sophomore year that captures my visual storytelling skills and capabilities in Adobe After Effects. Given the assignment to develop a 30-60 second animated book trailer, I chose the children’s book James and the Giant Peach due to my nostalgia for the narrative. My goal was to capture the book's whimsy and magic and to reveal just enough of the plot to make an audience want to order and read the book. I achieved an eye-catching whimsical look and feel through a colorful and high-contrast color scheme, cartoon-style illustrations, a quirky song, unique transitions, and an exciting selection of scenes. The trailer ends just short of revealing the big surprise to the audience: there are talking insects inside the peach! This strategic decision leaves the audience with a question at the end. At the end of the trailer, the audience is then enticed to act on their curiosity with an order call to action button.
