Project Overview
Highland Square is a beloved Akron, Ohio landmark that boasts an eclectic, endearing personality with its various shops, restaurants, and entertainments which attract a diverse crowd almost as quirky as the location itself.
Growing up, I drove through Highland Square every day on my way to school. However, I realized that I was unaware of the Square's hidden gems due to some of its ambiguous storefronts. When I received my assignment to design a map, this location stood out as the clear choice because it presented a problem to solve.
My goal was to design a clear, effective map that identifies all that Highland Square has to offer, while also capturing its quirky character. My resulting design is a retro-style map that features color-coding, numbering, and icon systems to assist Akron natives and visitors in locating their next stop.
