Sleep Passport: Supporting the Journey to Better Sleep
2024 | 3 months | Group Project | Design 6441: Co-Design Studio | Dr. Elizabeth Sanders
Context
A project designing and evaluating a behavioral intervention to help graduate students improve their sleep quality.
Approach
User research through participant sleep mapping and in-depth interviews; behavior change wheel worksheets; affinity diagramming; intervention design and delivery; pre- and post-test surveys; analysis
Outcomes
Four guided activity booklets (1 per week) offering participants a range of analog pre-bed activities designed to reduce screen time and stress. Each night, participants selected and completed an activity, reflected on its effects on sleep quality and length, and identified preferred practices. Over time, participants used these reflections to construct personalized bedtime routines tailored to their needs and habits. The project generated insights into habit formation, intervention feasibility, and barriers to sustaining healthy sleep practices among graduate student participants.
